Contents vs. building items. If you turned your house upside down “whatever would fall out would be contents” except for refrigerators which are a building item. Drapes are always contents items. Link is to contents coverage with no restrictions.

Start sorting damaged from undamaged items. Move undamaged items to a safe dry location. Move destroyed items to a safe location in an orderly manner so as Adjuster can inspect. and cover items with a tarp.
– Flood does not pay for pods or storage units.
– Make a list of destroyed items by room. The list needs to have a good description of the item, age, cost to replace at today’s market, and anything that has a make/model and serial number include that information. Most adjusters will tell you to combine items that are similar i.e. clothing, shoes, hand tools, canned goods, dry goods, cleaning supplies ect. Use an average age and cost per item. Here is a form that I gave out to policyholders for you to copy. Most important is to be neat, and try not to mix up areas.
